According to the American School Counseling Association, "School counselors are certified/licensed educators with a minimum of a master's degree in school counseling, making them uniquely qualifed to addreess all students' academic, career and social/emotional development needs." School Counselors work alongside teachers, parents, administrators, community members and organizations to insure each student has a positive, rigorous learning environment.
- Individual Counseling--This is the easiest way for me to provide for each student's individual needs. Counseling referrals may be made by anyone (parent/guardian, teacher, student, administrator).
- Small-Group Counseling--When there is a common need among a group of students, I can also provide small group counseling. The purpose of a counseling group is to provide a safe environment so that the students may practice healthy behaviors that can transfer to the regular education classroom.
- 504 Coordinator--Some students with disabilities or other medical conditions may be eligible for 504 services (accommodations). If you believe your child may be eligible for these services, please contact me.
- Student Assistance Team (SAT) Co-Coordinator--Students struggling with academic or behavioral objectives may be referred to the SAT for discussion about possible interventions and/or accommodations. A parent or teacher may make a referral.
- Classroom Guidance-- I meet with classrooms on a seven day rotation. During classroom guidance we learn about character education words, study skills, career exploration, and many other wonderful topics that translate to various areas of students lives.
- And much, much more!
